In recent months I have been venturing into the area of silversmithing as another avenue to explore.  Just yesterday I attended a day workshop in silver clay work which involved working with minute amounts of clay to fashion pieces which are fired to leave virtually pure silver. Here are the pieces in the kiln where they briefly catch fire as a part of the process. My finished works were a ring and some charms. Don’t know what’s next. Would like to do more and considering the outlay on equipment and how to make it happen.

When the lights are on 'Amber'

 I have actually spent today cutting and carving into Amber stone in it’s natural state. Actually quite soft to cut and shape by filing and sanding, followed by endless polishing to a high shine. Hopefully all will be revealed at the end of the week with my finished piece, more a ‘neck-piece’ than a pendant with the way things are going. Making the dreaded bezel should be interesting tomorrow. Precision never my strong point but here goes.
